    SO WHAT'S THIS ALL ABOUT?

We want to make a film! In particular THIS  film! It's inspired by a poem Joe's Dad wrote about the experiences of squatting in a notorious 1970s Kings Cross estate - Hillview.

Located in Kings Cross, the Hillview estate had been built at the turn of century to provide ‘model’ homes for the poor. In the late 70’s it had turned into ‘hellhole’ of criminal activity, notable for drugs and prostitution, and was on the brink of council demolition. The film follows the experience of squatters faced with the prospect of homelessness, the importance of community and solidarity, and how we must look back on collective struggle to improve our present and future.

We open with a man in his 30s, Shane, standing in his messy and eviction notice-cluttered living room while he looks out the window playing a Spanish guitar. We meet various other characters on the estate, some welcoming and warm, while others more nefarious and intimidating. These vignettes continue as we see Shane’s perilous situation unfold.

    BUDGET BREAKDOWN

    WHY WE NEED YOU

We are hoping, with your help, to raise £5,000 to complete ‘A View From the Hill’. These funds will be essential in covering camera and lighting equipment costs, locations, set design, costume, and very importantly paying our crew.

Also using the funding, along with a run on the festival circuit, we plan to exhibit the film on the estate with invitations included in our perks. I want the screening to capture the essence of the yearly Hillview festivals with their celebrations of community; music, food and all.

Anything given, from £1 to £1,000, is tremendously appreciated, and the help towards getting this story of the ‘down-and-outs’ on screen is invaluable. We also have a range of perks available to say thanks!
