Unborn
'Unborn' follows the story of a young couple from Christian/Muslim backgrounds as they become unexpectedly pregnant following an incorrect medical diagnosis. The couple must handle the struggle of giving up the baby whilst dealing with the emotional, physical and religious consequences, and the impact this will have on their relationship - all without alerting their families.
Project
Unborn
Over the past year, I have saved £4,500 for this project by working part-time in a gym whilst completing my studies at MetFilm School, and I am now looking to crowdfund the remaining £4,000 we need to turn this idea into a reality.
Unborn follows the story of a young couple from Christian/Muslim backgrounds as they become unexpectedly pregnant following an incorrect medical diagnosis. The couple must handle the struggle of giving up the baby whilst dealing with the emotional, physical and religious consequences, and the impact this will have on their relationship - all without alerting their families.
The film is set within the context of contemporary London, where cultures and religions merge on a daily basis. In a city where millions of people are frantically rushing about every day, Unborn presents an intimate portrayal of the conversations around abortions that is rarely discussed: the emotional consequences of abortion, and its impact upon relationships.
Within this film, we are shooting in several locations - which will create a fast paced blur to the film, but will also be a massive challenge for the production team. These locations include: two houses, a GP, a mosque, a gym, and a graveyard.
Producer - Midnight Adams
Midnight Adams is a Scottish film & music video producer based in London. She has produced a wide variety of films, from comedies to action packed stunt work, and her films have been screened internationally across Europe, America and the Middle East - winning some awards too along the way. She is currently producing her first feature film, due to shoot in February, and has new projects released all the time.
Unborn is Midnight's first project where she will be taking a more creative role as the producer - especially during development. This is a project which sits very close to her heart, and she is excited to finally tell this story.
Her goals for this project are: to make a film that will alter the audiences' views on the subject, present a raw and authentic story, create some beautiful visuals, and have the project screened at as many festivals internationally as possible.
Writer - Luke Norton
Luke Norton is an award-winning filmmaker based in Ealing. He holds an MA in Screenwriting from MetFilm School and currently works as a freelance writer and director.
"The story of Unborn is somewhat at odds with my usual literary palette. It's heavily influenced by the discourse surrounding reproductive rights and matters of faith, two things I lack much first-hand experience in. However, the themes of fate and self-determination remain universally and, unfortunately, still relevant regarding the abortion debate."
Cinematographer - Lia Charalambous
Lia Charalambous is a British Cypriot filmmaker based in London. She is now in her final year of her undergraduate degree at MetFilm School and is currently working as the cinematographer on her first feature film. She has had great success in the past, with several of her short films being screened at festivals.
Lia found her passion for cinematography at a young age through her love for photography.
In her role as Director of Photography on Unborn, Lia seeks to use naturalistic lighting and effective composition that enhances the real and rawness of the story.
