What’s it all about?
How often do we feel that things are out-with our control in our lives? How do we move forward from there? What will we do to support those we love the most? How do we express our love?
Star Child is about love and connection. It tells of a family who are facing their greatest challenge. That challenge is from external forces. Their strength comes from themselves and each other.
The story centres around an unexpected twist in the tale so it’s not possible to give you the plot but this film will speak to anyone who is a parent or intends to be a parent. And also anyone who might identify with Fin, the child in the story as it may reflect on your relationship with your parent/s.
Star Child will be 20 minutes long which gives you, the audience, the space to immerse yourself in the family’s journey.
The story came from many different starting points.
Firstly, my experience of becoming a mother later in life, the challenges I faced leading up to the birth, and the joy of finally having a family.
Secondly, having witnessed heartbreaking footage of a family being torn apart by war, I wondered what could you do hold on to your time together if your family connection was threatened?
And finally, what if young children were capable of far more than we adults realise? That final "what if" was inspired by the extraordinary connection that I felt with my son when he was little. Sometimes when he looked into my eyes, it felt like he was connected to something much bigger than the little body that was housing his being.
We champion women in film. Both behind and in front of the camera. Female director, female writer, female producers, female production designer, and female protagonist - a woman in her 50s.
Jane’s subtle and delicate story spoke to me on a very intimate level, not only evoking the magical realism I’m always been chasing, but also portraying a tender relationship between mother and child, which I personally never had.
Star Child is a layered, surrealistic journey into a woman’s psyche. Such an intricate film deserves nuanced storytelling and reality-defying visuals to fully immerse us in the imaginative world of a gifted child.
We understand it’s important to know that your money will be used to create something of quality so hopefully looking at the details of the team members will give you that ease and trust.
