A SONG FOR YOU
"A Song for You" is a heartfelt short film by Gabriele Sarfatti about two lifelong friends who now lead very different lives. Their journey uncovers unresolved tensions, jealousy, and unspoken truths, leading to tentative hope for reconciliation.
Project
A SONG FOR YOU

My goal is to create something that unites people through shared experiences and emotions. It’s not just about portraying friendship, love, or the struggles of connection, but about finding the universal in the specific, allowing viewers to see themselves in these characters and their journey.
This film is also a way for me to process my own experiences capturing the complexities of relationships as they evolve and shift over time. I’m drawn to the challenge of telling a story where the most significant moments aren’t found in grand events but in subtle gestures, unspoken tension, and quiet realisations. Simplicity is often the hardest thing to achieve, and that’s why I find it so rewarding to tackle as a filmmaker.
My past experiences have taught me valuable lessons about storytelling, collaboration, and the craft of filmmaking. I crave to build on those lessons and take this film to a new level, pushing my boundaries while staying true to the story's heart. I believe in this project because it challenges me, but more importantly, because it has the potential to connect with others in an honest and meaningful way. It aims to connect, unite, leave a lasting impression, to make you think about that friend.

The visual approach for this film will blend realism with an experimental edge.
I want to try to use natural light to create an authentic, grounded atmosphere.
Movement and reaction shots of body language, inspired by Close, will capture the subtle nuances of the characters' unspoken emotions—tense glances, and small shifts in posture becoming key indicators of their internal worlds.
The film will embrace quiet moments of solitude and nature, much like in Perfect Days, where silence speaks louder than words, allowing the environment and stillness to reflect the emotional distance between the characters.
Soft, natural hues that evoke nostalgia and intimacy similar to those in Aftersun. Lingering shots will allow for contemplation, as the audience is invited to sit with the tension that builds between the two friends.
At key moments, cyanotype animation will be used to depict their internal struggles, memories, and discord, lending a dreamlike essence that contrasts with the realism of the rest of the film.
Wide shots will establish the vastness of the landscape they journey through, while shallow focus and close-ups will draw attention to the minute but powerful details of their interactions, creating a delicate balance between what is seen and what is felt.

We are a UAL graduation film production with very limited resources and plan to shoot on location in the countryside. This comes with costs, in the hope of running a happy and healthy set, we need your help.
This is our third year film and we want to be able to be ambitious with our filmmaking, as well as producing a film that echos the ethos of a well run set. We will be working with a very tight skeleton crew, but will need to be able to put them up so that they are not sleeping in tents. Our main budget cost will be housing our cast and crew as well as their travel to set.
Our current budget estimation is a total of £4500, and we have already secured part of this - help us get over the finish line to be able to make our film.
