Project
Limp
A man takes part in an absurd match-making event.
‘Limp’ is a dark comedy written by Daniel Keeble about an off-kilter match-making event in a village hall. The film follows introvert Sid, who must confront his inner urges and make a life-changing decision after meeting a group of unbalanced individuals.
We believe there aren't enough stories being told about mental health problems. 'Limp' covers an important but often difficult subject matter, so we hope the film can help shape and inspire discussions on the topics the film brings up, to encourage healthy and progressive conversation around mental health.
We’re inviting you to help us tell this story, with the hope of raising £10,000 to shoot and complete the film.
DIRECTOR'S STATEMENT
An incredibly personal film for me, and one that tackles heavy subject matters. We use film as a way to cope, to process and understand trauma, life and reality, and to encourage open conversations that normally would be too difficult and uncomfortable to address. Through dark comedy, we're able to tell a bold and challenging story that'll get people thinking.
'Limp' is the most important and ambitious film project for me so far. I’m nervous about it, apprehensive, cautious….all the reasons why I have to make it. I’m thrilled with the incredible feedback from everyone who’s read the screenplay so far; it's encouraging to say the least.

THEMES & SETTING
A group of misfits gather for a speed-dating style event. The topics of discussion are twisted and unconventional for everyone attending. Amidst this bizarre scenario, middle-aged Sid finds himself drawn into an unhinged world of organised chaos.
Through this thought-provoking and unsettling premise, ‘Limp’ is an unconventional exploration of the human condition; on the effect our decisions have on the ones closest to us, and how our deepest desires and depraved urges can drive our consciousness. A bold and challenging story, attempting to perceive humans differently; relishing in one’s own self-gratifications, regardless of the consequences.
The ending will leave the audience uncomfortable, unsure whether to laugh or recoil.
LOOK & FEEL
The tone of the film will be disturbing yet not too unfamiliar, and the deadpan acting and dialogue will give it a sense of unease, suggesting a distorted reality.
Shot compositions will be unconventional, all to make for an uncomfortable viewpoint and reflect the character’s uneasiness during the conversations. This visual in-balance communicates their subconscious interests, their buried need to connect and make a match.
We'll be using a 4:3 aspect ratio, so as to focus on the main character, seeing this through his eyes. A portrait ratio coupled with a general retro aesthetic intended to give a nostalgic and familiar look and feel. The clothes the characters wear and their general appearance will drive this surreal story throughout.
INSPIRATION
A Kafkaesque story that draws inspiration from a variety of films, centred around the popular dark comedy, psychological thriller, horror genres. It will mostly be influenced by Greek Weird-Wave films such as 'Apples', 'Alps' and 'Miss Violence', as well as beloved film and television series like 'The House that Jack Built', 'Limbo' and 'Severence'.
'Limp' is aimed at an audience who enjoy films that don't 'explain', but rather 'challenge', that offer a fresh new angle, that are creative, with interesting characters and unique concepts.
